Cerulean Mornings

I have been very busy with actual work, and then vacation, and then work again, that I've neglected my 00QRBB entry for a while. Meant to actually start writing in August, but now it's mid-September and I haven't written a single word! However, I did sketch out a main plot and thought it through, so at least I'm not starting from scratch? It's due in about a month, and I'm thinking of starting today, so I have plenty of time to drum out 5000 words. Can't be that bad if I actually put my back into it, ha!

Or I could just be a loser and be late, but you know, I rather not be a loser, especially considering my last entry was technically 4 years late....yeah...well, anyway, I've set up the goal tracker and am definitely starting on it today. I think it'll be a great distraction while I'm trying to learn to code - the process is making my brain leak out of my ears, let me tell ya. Fanfic would be great at relaxing (along with all the video games I'm playing. I talk about those a lot more on my side blog.)

Just a quick update on what I've been doing fandom wise. Boy I really need to post more here haha, and also on tumblr because I haven't really posted anything in like months. That just won't do now, would it? I've got stories to write and to talk about, people, and my laziness should not cut into all the good things in my life!

Anyway, I surprised myself and actually caught the second round of 00QRBB claiming this time around. You can thank my health issues for forcing me to wake up earlier and earlier for the past few months (during a time most people can afford to get up later due to WFH and other quarantine-specific reasons. How ironic.) Went on around 8:30 am my time and hey what do you know, the art I want is available! At first I was a bit confused because the way it was setup I thought everything's already gone, but no, it was just that the first round claims were on there too and I didn't realize it only matters if there were two names attached to the picture - that means it's gone for good. You know I haven't ever done a second round claim before (I always emailed my top 5 choices, because dudes, like I said, I used to not be get out of bed until 10.) so cut me some slack, eh?

It was also kind of fun to check the document later to see who claimed what. I know, I know, there's a "big reveal" soon, but you can't blame me for being curious! Plus I don't know who the artists are, only who's writing (and many writer handles I do not recognize - new people is always good!). There's already a few I'm really looking forward to. Well, at least this is one bright spot for 2021. Can we please skip these next two months and just call it a year?

Yep, I signed up again this year. If you're unfamiliar, this will give all the information you need. It's basically a collaborative fic/art challenge, where you write a fic based on a piece of artwork. Thing is, I tried twice before and failed to complete my work both times. The first time I got way too ambitious, and so the fic became this giant thing that I lost interest in (might still finish, actually, some day in the very distant future). The second time I was in the midst of a lot of surgeries and eye problems so had to drop out due to medical reasons. So, yeah, not a great track record. 

But not this year! No, this year I WILL complete this, because I should, and it might be the thing that keeps me sane. Because listen, I realized belatedly this month (yep, this month, instead of, oh I don't know, 5 years ago?) that I need something to make me happy for me to be productive. Like, it's not enough to rest, I actively need something to do to make myself happy, which is especially hard in a depressive episode brought on by, oh I don't know, the entire 2020 year because of everything that's going on? I have to do active happy work to be productive in stressful work, does that make sense? And I've decided that you know what, writing fanfic makes me happy. So yeah, let's just jump right in and make it happen.

Writer's sign up period is not even finished so I'm not going to talk about this too much any time soon, but just know that yes, I signed up for another year and I'm both excited and trepidatious. I am also determined to finish writing this other fic which I deemed as a make-up fill for the first year, where I just didn't complete the assignment. It's much shorter and 2/3 finished and I just need to continue writing it, which is hard, because, again, all those depressive episodes. I'm trying to finish writing that before I start writing the new one. Yeesh. All this along with my actual novel work - I will have a busy end of year. Maybe at least that'll redeem 2020 a little, because as far as I'm concerned, this year solely deserve to be thrown into the trash.
