Art Preview Is Here!

Today I received the art preview doc in my mailbox for the Bigbang. I have to say this is my favorite part haha, getting to see all the gorgeous art and decide which one draws me in the most. This year of course every single one of them is beautiful! And I noticed a lot of the artists picked Walther PPK. (A definition of what that term means is here.) I remember the last two years there were a lot more Exploding Pen ones, where artists have minimal input when it comes to the story plot elements. So it looks like people want to get more involved in the narrative, which I think is very cool and interesting! And coincidentally (or not?) a lot of the art are fairly specific in their scenarios. Compared to at least last year, where there were more vague, atmospheric art pieces, this year we got more plot- or universe-heavy art. (By universe heavy I mean like, it's obviously a mermaid fic, or magic fic, instead of some nondescript location which could be any time any where). Again, super interesting take and I'm super excited about all the fics they're going to generate, but I myself am finding it slightly difficult to claim, mostly because I have no experience with some of the genre or setting delineated. And also I work best if you just give me a sunset or something and not like a panel of comics for me to structure an original story around, but that's just me! I'm sure others would love the collaborative aspect more.
Oh and there's this one art prompt I 100% love, but I'm 1000% more interested to see someone else's take on it haha. So yeah, even though that one calls to me a lot, I'm not going to claim it, because sometimes you just want to read a super specific thing but not write it yourself, you know? Totally the case here. Man, this just makes me very excited and I really needed the pick-me-up today.
