Well, folks, I wrote the very first part of the main story last night. The prologue, where it's literally Ikki walking up to the Kido Mansion and staring at it feeling out of sorts. Classic opening for a traveler returning home, eh? It's short, and seriously, I do not trust my poetic writing skillz after this much of an absence. Today, I'm going to write the introduction so I can actually establish and "see" the characters. I don't think my narrator of Ikki has any personality yet, but that can be worked on later, when I write more of him. Hopefully.

I have also finally came up with the first small segment of the side story. Listen, all the parts of the side story are just very nebulous concepts I want to include (save the Nachi Interlude of course), where there's no streamline of plot yet. But I do have an overarching concept, and that is that Shiryu has completely lost his faith in Athena, the world, almost everything. Because if something he firmly believes in turns out to be utterly false, then what else could he trust? (Namely, Seiya's death. He absolutely believed the gods would protect Seiya because it's destined. Well, we know how that turned out.) So everything kind of unravels from there, and the entire story is pretty much him tormented by some serious despair and crisis of faith. He just hides it extremely well. We as readers know it, because we're seeing his thoughts, but literally no one in the story knows the extent of his misery, except maybe Athena, and she doesn't fucking care. Hyoga, however, have a sense of these things (because of his own history of, um, terrible luck with everyone in his life), so he knows how to give comfort in a way that Shiryu needs without realizing he's doing it (again, like teacher, like pupil). So. Yeah. We can see the ridiculous amount of conflicting emotions involved, yeah?

Anyway, what I came up with is the beginning. I want Shiryu to wake up thinking about his eyesight. It got restored magically by Athena. However, the last part of this segment will be him thinking 'the goddess giveth, and the goddess taketh away.' Sowing distrust on the get-go. I'm not sure when this'll happen in the plotline, perhaps right before Shun and Hyoga arrive to visit him and Shunrei in China. Perhaps earlier. Don't know. I'm just glad I have something to start with. Certainly needs a load more brainstorming on this fic.

I made an appropriate icon yesterday! It's an art of the constellation Cygnus without any visible labels for the star names, which took me forever to find. I mean both stories' protagonist is still Hyoga, although we literally never hear from his POV. I might tweak it a bit to make the art fit the frame better, but for now, this will totally suffice.
