ceruleanmorningsSo, (bongos start like when Luis is telling a story in Antman), I was trying to write the Nachi Interlude, and I just could not for the life of me get the dialogue/mood right. It's supposed to be the one where Nachi realizes 1) Hyoga is having a physical relationship with someone, and 2) that someone is Shiryu. Simple, right? Two guys, getting drunk, one lets something slip, and the other figures out the deal and is shocked. Yeah...nope. Not in the least. I wrote like 1000 words before I was like 'this ain't workin' and ended up trashing them all and starting again. I think it's because I really want to tie it to the scene at Jabu's apartment (yes, the one I offhandedly mentioned before involving six people getting drunk while smack-talking each other). Nachi was supposed to realize Hyoga/Shiryu was an actual thing, then remember that night when he and the guys basically insinuated the situation as a joke because none of them thought it was a remote possibility [because everyone knew Shiryu's straight, and also because everyone else at that party were, um, all actually straight so Hyoga's hotness did not register on their radar lol. Though Nachi (and probably Ichi, too, since he was the king of gossip) knew Hyoga's bi], and now realize how awkward the situation was/is. You know, now I just wrote that out it sounds kind of dumb, doesn't it? People don't necessarily have to react this way to past faux-pas, so I guess making it a central part of the plot is a bit weak. Ah...I see why I was having issues. My brain is going 'uh-uh girl, you can do better than that.'
And I did! I hope. I have now changed the timeline around so it's linear. I made it so Nachi at first only figures out Hyoga's sleeping with someone, but not who, though he feels like Hyoga wanted to tell him something but held back. And then the party happens, and through various small things Nachi just gets more suspicious. So after the party he goes to Hyoga and is like, yo dude, you're not actually sleeping with Shiryu right because 1) that's impossible since that guy's straighter than straight, and 2) that would seriously mess up a lot of shit like dude tell me I'm being paranoid. And of course Hyoga's like ummmmmm and Nachi's like holy shit are you two fuckheads out of yo fucking minds the hell you think you're doing??? And then the rest will follow my original plotline, ending at the other party/wake. Nachi basically watches their relationship grow into definitely-NOT-FWB and then gets deliberately torn apart but apparently not apart enough and now people are all kinds of miserable. And that's not even the worst of it. Because Nachi's like, okay if I don't say something NOW and they don't change their course then a lot more people are going to be miserable in the future. So he goes and says something, to Hyoga, and of course his chapter ends before anything gets remotely resolved.
You see why I really like Nachi as a character now? lol.
